…and while we’re on the subject of Tomoyo Harada…..

Tomoyo Harada Single "Sincere"
The more I watch Anata No Ban desu the more I fall in love with Tomoyo Harada as this cute middle-aged woman, and at some point, I thought, ‘You know…this lady doesn’t look ANYTHING like the Tomoyo Harada who sang the Song “Sincere” way back in 1997!” And digging out the CD single from my collection, I had to concur: MAN has her looks CHANGED!

The song Sincere was the theme song for the 1997 drama “Dessin” starring T0moyo and the then hot-off-the-heels-of-Hoshi-No-Kinka Takao Osawa, the story of a burgeoning painter named Satoshi who is dying of cancer and the life-choices he makes for himself and his love interest Sae (Harada).
This drama sported not only one of the few acting appearanes of CoCo’s Erika Haneda, but an eqaully rare acting performance by Shizuka Kudo as Satoshi’s “Fatal Atttraction-style ex-girlfriend!
I liked the show enough (it’s listed somewhere in the low 40’s of my original favorite dramas) though many didn’t care for it’s open-ended conclusion. Still, it’s the show that introduced me to Tomoyo Harada and for that I will be eternally grateful!
PS: When Dessin aired here in Hawaii, the subtitler at KIKU mistakenly translated Sincere, written シンシア in Hiragana, as “Cynthia”, leading many people to come to Tower records requesting a J-Pop Single that didn’t exist! Fortunately it was all sorted out and those early Tomoyo harad fans (like me) were able to get our hands on this lovely single!
