Ayami Nakajo stars as hyper newbie nurse Haruka Tachibana, a determined girl whose dream has always been to be a nurse, but once in the field, she finds it a lot harder and confusing than she thought!
Though good-natured, she is constantly bumbling up her duties and knocking things over, earning the wrath of her superior nurse Natsumi Mihara (Asami Mizukawa, playing pretty much the same role she did in Toumei Na Yurikago)) and having her growl out TAAAACHIIIIBBBAAAAAANAAAA!” in MUCH the same way Yuki Matsushita used to cry out “ASAKURAAAAA!” whenever Arisa Mizuki screwed something up in the classic NURSE NO OSHIGOTO!
From the first glance at the promotional picture for Hakui No Senshi, I already KNEW it was going to be like Nurse No Oshigoto, and in the very first minutes of the show, they didn’t waste time confirming it for me! LOLOL!

Not that you can blame them- Nurse no Oshigoto was a SUPER successful series, spawning THREE sequel series from 1996 thru 2002, and with Hakui No Senshi, the roles are almost entirely replicated, from the competent and efficient nurses:
Sarina Suzuki as Atsuko Ono. MAN, it’s been YEARS since I’ve seen her and truthfully, I didn’t even recognize her at first!!
Nana Katase as Mayu Murakami. The typical man-hungry woman role like the kind played by Harumi Inoue in the Nurse No Oshigoto series, I thought it was Saori Takizawa at first!
The “Cutie” Nurses: Ayaka “Sailor Venus” Komatsu as Yukino Fujii and the ADORABLE Moka Yamazaki as Erina Iwasaki, Mihara’s best friends/drinking buddies after hours.
Along with Tachibana, there is also another nurse in training with her, Hikaru Saito (Nozomu Kotaki) , the guy she considers her “rival!”!! Quite fun interplay between them.
And as the “head” Nurse, instead of Kazuko Yoshiyuki, we have…Ikki Sawamura???
And just like Nurse No Oshigo, they have the classic ”kind and patient” Head Doctor, here played by Ken Yasuda as surgeon Keiichiro Yagira doing his best Kyozo Nagatsuka!
So far it’s been your typical medical drama show but they DID add a really fun element to it by having Haruka Tachibana be a former Yankee-style Delinquent, a skill that comes to great use when dealing with irritable patients and sticky situations!

Will keep up with the show….Not sure just how interesting the stories themselves are going to be, but the characters are fun and hopefully will make for some entertaining shows...
Everyone knows how much I love Asami Mizukawa anyway, and Nakajo herself is a delight to watch so I expect some zany scenarios!
Looks like 2019 is ready for Nurse No Oshigoto Redux!!
By the Way, taking a peek at Moka Yamazaki's twitter, she posted a cute behind-the-scenes pic of her and Ayaka Komatsu on the set...very sweet!
PS: Nurse No Oshigoto was one of my FIRST big favorite dramas when I was first getting into watching Japanese programs and it will always hold a special place in my heart! I remember trying to get my friend Golden into the show, but he was APPALLED at the jokes consisting of Asakura knocking over trays of equipment and bumbling up an injection on a patient! LOLOLOLOL (Tachibana makes pretty much the SAME mistakes in Hakui No Senshi, by the way!)
