Choose Your Own Path: Soshite Ikiru 終

Man, for a show that started out like a fairly cliched romance drama, Soshite Ikiru turned into a pretty wonderful little drama.
The drama started out as most do, with Toko (Kasumi Arimura) and Kiyotaka (Kentaro Sakaguchi), two people from completely different backgrounds, who come together and fall in love while volunteering with the relief effort to a small town.
But just as I began getting comfortable with the story and where it was going, the show suddenly shifted into another direction, and for its 6 episodes, it kept me glued to my seat as all the individual players of the show go down the paths of their own futures.
“You have to choose your own path” is an adage sagely given, and I think it’s that point that really impressed me- there were no assured destinations, no quick solutions, just people who make choices with their lives and accept the futures they've made happen.
A VERY satisfying ending that had me weeping like a girlyman (and even again right now as I am typing it)  and I don’t even really know why- its not like it had this huge, sad ending or this shining happy ending either, felt just right.
