From the genius and madcap mind that brought you such greats dramas as “Sutekina Sen Taxi”, “Kuroi 10 nin-No Onna” and “Satsui No Michinori”, Screenwriter BAKARHYTHM is back with his latest romp, BRUSH UP LIFE!
Ando Sakura stars as Asami Kondo, a 30-ish government worker who lives each day pretty much the same: with no real zest or appreciation, just mundanely slogging along day by day, dealing with cranky customers at City Hall with no plans for the future.
with little sister (Mirai Shida)
And she isn’t the only one, as her two best friends from childhood, Natsuki Kadokura (Kaho) and Miho Yonekawa (Haruka Kinami) are equally uninspired by the lives they’ve been living.
Though they do have a good time of sorts whenever they’re together, much of it is filled with commenting on others’ lives and the choices they’ve made. Jokingly they wish they knew someone who was more of a loser than them to make themselves feel better, but the sentiment is fairly on the mark!!!
One night after a meal and melancholy karaoke session, they stop off at a convenience store to get a late-night snack. When the wrapper for Asami's snack flies into the street, she immediately runs after it…where she is struck by a truck and killed instantly!
When she opens her eyes, Asami finds herself in a completely empty room devoid of any color or life. "I Guess I died....So this is how it happens?” Asami thinks matter-of-factly as she assesses the situation. Somehow, she is OK with her death, as her life hasn’t been so spectacular!
She sees an Admissions Clerk there (played by the man himself, Bakarhythm, LOL) and he checks her in, having her sign the appropriate papers. Seems she's been expected!
She is just about ready to wrap things up and head out into the great unknown, when the Admission Clerk tells her her next step is to be reborn…as an ANTEATER!!!
WHAAT!
Come to find out, Asami’s destiny has been decided by her acts while living on earth: A life of indifference has earned her almost NO “golden points”, a MUST if you’re hoping to get into the Pearly Gates of Heaven!
WELL, Asami has no desire to be reborn as an Anteater and, using all the crabbiness and stubbornness she learned from her customers at City Hall, leans in towards the seated man and demands that something be done about it!
The Admissions Clerk tells her she DOES have ONE option- to go back and RELIVE her OWN LIFE again, and THIS TIME make sure to do GOOD DEEDS and get those GOLD STARS!!!
And thus Asami is reborn into the world, only THIS time, armed with the knowledge and MOTIVATION to do better! And who wouldn't be motivated when your only option is to be reincarnated as an Anteater! LOL!Things sure won't be easy for the feisty child Asami...but she's gotta TRY!
In the coming episodes we will see her work her way up from elementary school thru her teen years and ultimately back to her life as an adult! Will she SUCCEED in righting her life this time? Only time will tell!
Oh MY, I was hoping this new drama would have some of the MAGIC that Suteki na Sen TAXI had, and this set-up of reliving your past with the intention of fixing the bad parts about it Shines in Brush Up Life as well!
Such a FUN and interesting drama, gonna ENJOY this one!!!!
