Monsters, Aliens, and Ghosts, Oh My! Into The Chaotic World of DANDADAN

At the constant urging from a couple of my friends, I finally decided to watch the anime series DANDADAN, and after binging episode 1 up to the latest chapter 8, am totally glad I did! GREAT, wacky, high-paced FUN and ZANINESS following the exploits of two high school students Momo and Ken as they get up to their ears in all manner of supernatural and paranormal hijinks this side of the X-Files!

Ken “Okarun” is a nerdy and much bullied student whose only solace is in the world of outer-space and extra- terrestrials. Every day he prays for an alien ship to beam down and whisk him away from his sorry life, but alas, no outer space beings have ever shown up! Strangely, though he’s a great believer in aliens, he doesn’t believe in paranormal lore, considering ghosts and spirits and the like just fantasy!

Momo Ayase is a loudmouthed ouspoken girl whose only goal in her mundane life is to meet a guy like Takakura Ken,  but so far has been only striking out with losers left and right! This is a gal who really needs some excitement in her day! Brought up by a spiritual-medium Grandmother, Momo DOES believe in the spiritual world...but SHE scoffs at the idea of Outer Space Extra Terrestrial beings!

Getting into a heated argument one day on whether who is right, Momo and Ken make a bet- Ken will go to a supposed haunted site, and Momo will go to a building rumored to have UFO sightings, and in this way, hope to prove each other wrong when they cannot find any proof!

It all BACKFIRES on them, however, when Ken is indeed confronted with a soul-possessing ghost at the same time Momo is abducted by extra terrestrials!! Unable to believe their eyes, they must nonetheless overcome their shock and team up to find a way to get both of them OUT of their predicaments!

And as the two dig fight their way out of the spooky situation they've gotten themselves into, they will discover strengths within themselves that they never dreamed possible- powers to keep the world of ghosts, ghouls, aliens and the like at bay!

At episode 8 I’ve been REALLY digging this show- so Fun, Fast-paced, PACKED full of action, and even at times even incredibly HEARTBREAKING,  there hasn’t been an episode that has bored me yet!  Interesting, colorful characters peppered throughout the show, each with their own special traits that make them fun and cool to see, like the uber-badass cig-smoking sexy Spiritual Medium Grandma Seiko (voiced by Nana Mizuki!)...

 ...as well as the naive self-professed “Demon Hunter” Aira Shiratori…this was a fun character who went from one dimensional stereotype to a terrific main one in just a few chapters! I can only wonder how many more characters we’lll be meeting in this cour!

Speaking of cours, I wonder how many episodes this one is going to have…is it going to be the standard 12 episodes that series like Chainsaw Man and SPYx FAMILY did?? With eps as great as these are, I'll take as many as they can give us!!!

DANDADAN airs weekly on Thursdays, so I know what I'll be doing each week at that time!
