My Boss My Hero

After finishing Nakanai To Kimeta Hi, Car suggested we both check out the popular 2006 comedy drama "My Boss My Hero", that wacky show starring Nagase Tomoya as the yakuza heir who must go back to school and graduate if he wants to take over the business.

I recalled watching a bit of the first episode, however, and at the time, it really didn't seem to grab me. Maybe it was TOO wacky? Car and I had actually made plans to watch this drama several times before, but somehow, we always ended up watching something else!

In any case, I said, I dunno, I’m not really in the mood for another one of those Kinpachi Sensei/Naomi/Gokusen/GTO/Hammer Session/Q10 High School series where the drama is centered around a quirky/unorthodox character who shakes up the school and has him or her use their unique abilities to solve troubled students' problem as the plot for each episode.

But looking over the ranking stats on Dramawiki, Car said she thought My Boss My Hero HAD to be more than just a cliched formula show, because the ratings for the show were through the roof! Additionally, the rating started off high (19% for the first episode) and as the show went on it kept climbing, ending at an amazing 23.2%! This, of course, would indicate that not only did the show deliver as promised, but kept getting progressively better as the drama went on gaining more and more interest AND fans!

With that in mind, I agreed to make the show the next drama of choice! So I began gamely watching My Boss My Hero, and about 3/4 of the way through the first episode, I realized something:

Holy CRAP, this show was fricking AWESOME! Colorful characters, intriguing situations  and GREAT acting, this show was as thrilling and fun as Nagase's OTHER great shows like UNUBORE DEKA and TIGER AND DRAGON!
A Real SOLID Drama!!!
In his element: Yakuza Heir
Out of his element: Confused Student
Featuring pretty Aragaki Yui as Hikaru Umemura, the sweet and intelligent "Love Interest" (of sorts) to Nagase's Makio made the drama easy on the eyes...
Aragaki Yui and Nagase Tomoya
And I have to say that Yu Kashii as Makio's Straightlaced but determined Homeroom Teacher is SOOOOOOO well Done, an AWESOME character, easily my favorite character I've ever seen her play, and that's saying something  when you consider how much I loved her in Yukan Club!
Kashii Yu as Sensei Minami
Right Now, I'm currently up to Episode 7, and it's getting to the point where I'm starting to fret that the end is coming up, it's so GOOD!
