Shida Mirai in Himitsu

Shida Mirai in Himitsu
About halfway through "Himitsu", the melodramatic drama starring Shida Mirai and Ishida Hikari as a Mother and Daughter who are involved in a bus accident that results with the mother living inside the body of her teenage daughter, and having to adjust to her dealing with her husband (played by Sasaki Kuranosuke) now essentially becoming her father of sorts!

With an out-of body premise like that, you would have thought this would have been a comedy… Strangely, Himitsu’s not a fun show at ALL but a rather serious and  brooding piece about death, loss and even a mystery...whats up with that! This ain’t no Papa To Musume No Nanokan, that’s for sure!
Though a bit slow-moving at first, at Episode 6, things are finally starting to really get moving, with Mirai dealing with the problems and goings-on at her school (with her friends and boyfriend wondering why Mirais suddenly so cold to them- little do they know she's in fact her MOTHER!), while Dad Sasaki gets involved in trying to find out just WHAT went on the night the bus veered off course and crashed.
Though everyone’s acting is great in this one, special mention MUST be made of Shida Mirai, who must essentially play the Mother, Wife AND Daughter roles, and in that she succeeds admirably! What an AWESOME actress! She’s really grown into a powerful talent since her adorable younger days in shows like Jyoou No Kyoshitsu!
June 2023 edit:
adding the Keigo Higashino tag to this post as it is yet ANOTHER awesome novel adaptation of his works!!! They also made a movie version of this starring Ryoko Hirosue back in 1999, which I have not seen...as well as an ENGLISH adaptation starring David "X-Files" Duchovney!
