An IVE Discovery in Ala Moana

Fashion Design Store MIU MIU in Ala Moana Shopping Center had recently remodeled their entire store, going from their classic  turquoise/marble and metal look to a more posh white and gold image... Can’t say I was overly thrilled by the new look as I really liked the old design (See below):

Can't really blame them as the upgrade fits in more with the center's overall POSH aesthetic. Nonetheless, there was something that DID capture my attention while I looked over the new design, a svelte and chic looking suede outfit in the store’s front window:

At a glance it was INSTANTLY familiar to me…and why wouldn’t it? It was an outfit that I’d been DROOLING over the past few weeks at K-pop act IVE's youtube shorts channel, where stunning visual of the group Wonyoung was seen PROMOTING and MODELING that VERY SAME outfit at a recent Paris event!

MAN ALIVE, Miu Miu really knew what they were doing when they contracted Wony to be a fashion ambassador for this push- She is SO instantly captivating in everything she wears, and she looks like she’s been practically POURED into that ensemble, making it completely UNFORGETTABLE!!!

Is there anyone who exudes such an alluring aura? Man, even the way she signs her name seems so elegant!!! As you know, I've been a fan of Wonyoung since discovering her about a year ago during her IVE press promotions, and my infatuation has only grown!!  Such style and class, it’s no wonder she’s been hailed as the K-Pop “IT” girl for so many years!

2026 EDIT!!!!

In October in 2025, Wonyoung appeared once again at the Paris MiuMiu 2026 Spring/Summer  Launch  in yet another fabulous and gorgeous ensemble, as evidenced in this clip where the good natured Wony asked Security if she could possibly sign for her Paris fans- At first her bodyguard balks, but the coordinators acquiesce  and move the barriers so she can meet her fans!

Oooh, She looked so pretty here, I had to go over to the MiuMiu site and see the official  promotional clip with Wonyoung modeling the above outfit- SIMPLY STUNNING!!!

I told myself to memorize the ensemble in case it ever showed up in the showcase window of the Ala Moana MiuMiu store, and during a visit to the Center this weekend, WHAT SHOULD I SEE IN THE window, but the VERY outfit Wonyoung was promoting!!!!! I gasped, "It's the WONY DRESS!!!" and immediately began snapping away!

Funny how it's the exact same outfit but doesn't look HALF as mesmerizing as when Wonyoung is sashaying around Paris in it! Now that's REAL PR!!!

A Brief Dabble Back Into K-Pop with Jang Wonyoung and IVE

 Been checking out  the old K-pop haunts lately because of the newest RED VELVET album "Cosmic"and got a new discovery!  As some of you may know, I haven't really been really invested into the K scene ever since the Gen2 groups like SNSD, 2NE1, KARA, f(x) and T-ARA (among others) called it a day, and have since only very sporadically got into newer groups, primarily the aforementioned Red Velvet and groups like BLACKPINK and TWICE.

But it was while on the K-pop forums that I was introduced to a new group called IVE and in particular, an insanely adorable, personable and chatty member whom I was floored to hear speaking near-perfect English in the clips fans had uploaded online! Her name was Jang Wonyoung, and I was to later learn that she was QUITE a popular (as well as controversial) personality in Korea, not just in her musical endeavors, but in social media and as a name-brand spokesperson/model!

Wonyoung was not only fluent in English, she spoke in this warm and friendly tone, additionally she had LOADS of charisma and conversation sense, easily stealing the show in all the interviews I saw! Who WAS this girl and who was this group called IVE? I had not heard of them before!

I had to investigate further! I began watching all the IVE interview clips I could find, especially the ones where Wonyoung (and, to an extent, the other members) were speaking in English, and soon I was getting to know all of them individually (one GREAT thing about youtube is the MANY videos you can delve into when discovering new act), not just Wonyoung but Yujin, Leeseo, Rei, Gaeul and Liz as well! Now it was time to actually start listening to their MUSIC!

Turns out that both Wonyoung and IVE leader Yujin were both members of IZ*ONE, a group I actually knew before with a song called  "La Vie En Rose". This tune was one of my FAVE K-pop singles of 2018, so I had great anticipation and couldn't WAIT to hear what they would do with IVE!

Just decided to just in headfirst into their MVs, and by happy coincidence the song I clicked on was IVE's debut track, a song called ELEVEN, a tune which I'm not gonna lie- FLOORED me from the moment I heard it! A song very much of its time, ELEVEN sounds part TWICE, part BLACKPINK and even some Red Velvet thrown in, add it all up and you had one KILLER of a SONG, one which I played over and over again!

Not only was the song a banger, but the dance moves in the MV were smooth and slick, and the girls themselves looking as COOL as could be, just OOZING ferocity and attitude!

I had to hear MORE, and soon went through all their singles, AFTER LIKE, HEYA, LOVE DIVE, I AM and MORE! This was one group that needed FURTHER examination and I grabbed the few MP3 albums available in the forums I could get: IVE IVE, SWITCH, and the awesome IVE MINE as well as the singles for Eleven and After Like!

Been spending the weekend listening to these songs over and over again and it looks like it might be time to grab some of their physical albums as well!!! Awww, it's always SO EXCITING when I discover a new act to get into, and for now it's ALL about IVE!

PS: Besides being fluent in English, Wonyoung is also fluent in Japanese, and HEY! Seems she's a fan of 80's icon Seiko Matsuda ...and Chisato Moritaka as well!!!!
