Adorable Eater: Yuka Kinoshita

I’d known about Extreme Eating Challenges and the fact that Japan has produced quite a few of the world champions, but I never thought about how some of them might have Youtube Video channels with millions of subscribers… yes, I’d seen that some of the female extreme eaters were super pretty and cute (Gal Sone, for example), but I just didn’t see how one could really get into watching someone just sitting there, eating, even if it was in extreme amounts…
Then I saw the video channel for competitive eater Yuka Kinoshita, and I completely changed my mind- these were cute, hilarious and full of FUN videos centered not just around the extreme eating, but the creative ways to make your meal tastier, and above all, the CHARISMA of the person, something which Yuka had in spades!!

100 McDonalds Burgers: 50 hamburgers, 50 Chicken Sandwiches
Secret Weapon: Mayo
10 bags of10 Jumbo Slices of Bread...
...makes 100 slices of bread for Yuka to polish off!
Yeah, Yuka's definitely a cutie, but what really makes the videos is how much fun she’s having and the creative ways she spices up her dishes, (when you’re eating 3kg of ONE thing, you need to spice things up a one way or another!) accompanying her eating is her cheerful patter which is always playful and full of candor: She’ll readily admit when she’s botched a dish or is getting sick of eating it, but when she’s loving it, she is full of radiant praise, wriggling with happiness, this girl really loves eating, LOL!

80 mochis down and Yuka eyeing the remaining 20
Deka 3 kg Pudding (Made for 30 People)
Making the Pudding Batter...
Finished! Now...To eat it...
Yuka’s style of talking actually reminds me not just a little of Miho Kanno: droll, slightly dizzy and always with the hint of a laugh on her lips, and when things sometimes go south (like buying cans of azuki beans…but having no can opener, or having one of her dishes catch fire in the toaster oven), she has the funniest expressions and reactions!
"No way, I need a can opener for this?"
"... I don't have a can opener."
The video I saw of Yuka was a recent one where she ate an entire box of Honeycomb Cereal, (complete with two (two!) cartons of milk), interesting enough, but what made me LOVE it was her adorable chatter and observations: she began the segment reading the name of the cereal “Ho-nee Commbo?”, trying to make heads or tails of its title, but later when she’s eating it, she notices, “Hey, I just realized, this cereal is made to look like a bee’s nest!” AHAHAHA, I was laughing so hard, I fell in love right there!
A GIANT bowl of Honeycomb...
"Hey, this is supposed to look like a Bee's Nest right?"
Funny though, Yuka talks so much after she’d already poured all the milk into the Honeycomb bowl, I began to be painfully aware at how SOGGY that cereal must be getting! Made me think of the classic Peanuts cartoon:
The entire time I was watching her, I was thinking to myself “Oooh, Yuka, m-maybe you should eat that a bit faster!” But between spoonfuls of the stuff, Yuka quickly stated that the cereal was good both crunchy AND soggy, and, dolloping honey repeatedly into the bowl and mixing it all together, polished off the bowl and with a big smile gushed at how YUMMY it was!
"Gochisousama!"
What an entertaining girl! From there I began checking out all of her other clips and each one has its own special quirks! More than just pigging out, she does try to find interesting things to eat and make as well as innovative ways to prepare and serve them, making what you’d think was a boring video into something completely captivating!

PS: As someone who has FILLED this blog up with screencaps of Japanese Actresses eating various foods over the years, you would have thought I would have already been a HUGE fan of this Idol Eaters thing! Better late than never!
