Erina Mano Goes to Work

Whenever I read up on upcoming dramas, if I find one that piques my interest I add it to my “plan to watch” list on MDL, and when /if the show gets picked up by a kind subtitling team, it moves to my “watching” list and, eventually, to my “watched” list.
Of course, there are a bunch of dramas that I add that never do get picked up by any team, and so I’ll periodically have to go the the “plan to watch” list and remove shows that have long since passed and have little chance of being subbed.
Looking over the newly-overhauled MDL site I happened to to through my plan-to-watch list and saw the Erina Mano drama “Kono yo ni Tayasui Shigoto wa nai” listed there. “Huh!” I said to myself. ‘I forgot ALL ABOUT that drama!” It had long since ended (aired in early April) and I figured that if someone had picked it up I would have heard about it, so I was quite happily surprised to visit the Drama3s site and find the entire 8 episode show up there…and ALL COMPLETELY SUBTITLED!!! Awesome!!!!
Kono yo ni Tayasui Shigoto wa nai tells the story of a hard-working girl named Kasumi Kirinaka who once was a elementary school teacher. She is a diligent  worker but tends to over-immerse herself in her job which caused her to ‘Burn Out” and leave the system.
She is then introduced to an unusual employee agency agent (played by the always eccentric Atsuko Asano) who sets up Kasumi with a variety of equally unusual and intriguing occupations.
In the first episode she is sent to work for the Canary Bus company where her job is to recruit advertisers who want to have their commercials played on the loudspeakers in the bus.
She is schooled by a senior scriptwriter/announcer and as she slowly learns the ropes of the job, she learns to find the little things in the town to pay attention to and cherish.
I really loved the first two episodes of this drama. In fact, I was hoping that the whole drama would be centered around her working at this ONE business. But the show will follow a more “Hello Work Week” type of storyline as she uses her new outlook of the town and its people to work on new types of jobs and situations.

This is the first drama i’ve seen with Erina Mano as the lead actress and she’s very good in this. Actually, I don’t really know about her acting career that much. Has she been the lead in very many dramas? I know she was in Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu and my GOSH I loved her as Satoeri in “Keizoku:SPEC” (She looks so much thinner now than back then, BTW) but these all ahve been minor roles. Nice to see her as the Star for a change!
