Gravure Model cum Actress Ren Ishikawa never really stood out for me in the two shows I saw her in, (the Yuriko Yoshitaka drama Tokyo Tarareba Musume as staffer Mami Shibata and the Cheatin’ Sasaki Kuranosuke drama Tasogare Ryuuseigun as daughter Misaki) and it wasn’t until I checked out the zany detective comedy OSHII KEIJI where I got to see Ren Ishikawa in action as the fiery no-nonsense Ena Haida that I realized how captivating, charismatic, and oh-so KAKKOI she could be!
After a humiliating case where he accused the wrong person, Oshii is holed up in the toilet and refuses to come out. All the guys try and talk him out but none succeed.
Finally Ena has a go at it, at first trying to sweet-talk him out…but when he plays hard-to-get, she gives up and reverts to her true all-business attitude and growls “I'm gonna knock until you COME OUTTA THERE!”
After a hilarious one hour(!) of pounding, Oshii finally gives in, sobbing, “ I Hate Tsundere!!” (People who switch between sweet and assertive), LOL
In another scene, Oshii gives up on the case, telling Haida he’s HAD it and he’s leaving. That is, until he realizes the girls that work there are cute, to which he hurries back and tries to insinuate himself back into the interviews.
“Thought you were leaving.” Ena scoffs, to which Oshii tries to ignore…so she KEEPS repeating “Thought you were leaving.” “Thought you were leaving.” til he growls “I’M GONNA DO IT!!” AHAHA
And that’s not all! When the chips are down and there’s criminal activity underfoot, no two-bit criminal is going to get past THIS BADASS chick!
Reminding me a a mix between Erina Mano and Rio Uchida, Ren Ishikawa was stealing every scene for me, and I was SO bummed to find Oshii Keiji only had 4 episodes!!!
WHAAA! What’s up with all these super-short shows nowadays!!! Just when you find a drama you can sink your teeth into, it’s all over! I wanted MORE!
