Another Gentle Haru Kuroki Drama “Boku No Neechan”

You never know what you’re going to get with a J-drama entitled “My Sister”. On one hand you could get the beloved classic “Imoto Yo” from 1994 starring Toshiaki Karasawa and Emi Wakui -or you could get “Boku No Imoto”, the meandering 2009 mess starring Masami Nagasawa and Joe Odagiri! The latest “My Sister”, Boku No Neechan stars Yosuke Sugino as Junpei Shirai and Haru Kuroki as Chiharu, his titular "Older Sister", and I’m happy to report that, much like Haru’s other dramas like Mi wo Tsukushi Ryoricho or Nagi No Oitoma, this drama is a soothing, relaxing slice-of-life type of show meant to be enjoyed like a warm chamomile tea before bedtime…
Junpei is a wide eyed and innocent kind of guy making his way through a new job as a sales marketer, enjoying the camaraderie of fellow workers (Takuya Wakabayashi) and getting his first taste of possible romance with pretty co-worker Mihoko (A stunning Sayu Kubota)!
Chiharu, on the other hand, is a cynical realist- a worn down woman used to the slings and arrows of the business machine- dealing with catty co-workers, bad post-work drinking parties (sandwiched between boring superiors to boot) and always coming come, tired, tired, tired!
But it’s when she gets home that she feels most comfortable, nibbling on snacks and sipping down beers while unloading her problems of the day by animatedly lecturing her naive little Bro about the ways of work, love, and life!
This is another winsome show featuring Haru in the kind of role she does best- the thoughtful and slow-paced characters who always seem to be seeing life in a very retrospective way!
PS: Some of you know about my pet peeve of drama props where the character comes to the office holding a lidded coffee cup which is OBVIOUSLY empty, but I saw a new take on this in Boku No Neechan  where Junpei is eating from what is obviously a prop pizza box with nothing in it, LOL, too funny!
You can clearly see how empty it is when he flattens the box to throw it away, LOL
Guess it was too costly to buy a couple of pizzas to use for the scene and then share amongst the crew, hahaha! Props, ya gotta love 'em!
