The Christmas season is upon us and here we have Keitan in suitably wintery attire!

WELL, it's been another eventful year for Keiko, what with her dramas, movies and endorsements, and we can only look ahead to see what's still to come!

It's November, time to be thankful for what we have, and among the things to be grateful for is the new Keiko Kitagawa film which is FINALLY coming out late this month!

New promotional posters for the movie are out, but the real question is if  and WHEN it will be subbed and streamed for us NOT in Japan to watch!

Keiko in a suitably autumn vibe here for the month of October!

- The index features an original design featuring olive leaves in a Roman numeral font. The hour markers feature rounded, cut-out parts reminiscent of olive fruit.

Man, I wonder how much one of these pieces would actually cost? Judging by the current prices of similar watches on the CITIZEN site, seems to run about 1,300 dollars or so...

Oh my that's a lot of shekels! But nice, very nice!

Calling Dr. Kevorkian: Go Ayano and Keiko Kitagawa on the Case in "Dr. Death no Isan: Black File"

Very thought provoking standalone movie (which somehow feels like part of a longer series) from 2020,  dealing with the subject of the assisted suicide/dying with dignity debate. The film follows two detectives, Inukai Hayato (Go Ayano) and Takachiho Asuka (Kitagawa Keiko) when, following up on a regular death from cancer, hears from a child that the deceased was visited by a mysterious man just hours before his passing.

When interviewing the widow, she denies any foul play and says that her husband passed naturally from the cancer. But a seized video camera provides footage confirming the child's story: There WERE visitors beforehand, a snow-white haired doctor and silent nurse.

Faced with this proof, the widow comes clean. She was indeed visited by a Doctor and Nurse, but it was by her husband's own choosing. Wracked with pain and the misery of burdening his family with debt building up day after day,  he sought to end it all, and thus called upon the man called Dr. Death, who arrived and, with mercy, gave him a lethal injection to put his tormented body to rest.

With further pordding, the wife says she made the call out to the legendary doctor via a website where those with terminal illnesses can make a plea for a visit from the Doctor and be put out of their pain.

Tracking down guests who have put in requests on the website, Inukai and Takachiho find no less than five other such mercy killings, and when they pay visits to the survivors,  they only have gratitude for the mysterious doctor, and see him as a savior.

This is problematic for the duo as they see this "Doctor" as nothing more than a specialized serial killer, and the subject is particularly troubling for Detective Inukai, who himself has a young daughter battling a seemingly terminal illness. He would NEVER want his daughter to choose  a suicidal death, and cannot imagine how the other families can live with themselves for letting their loved ones go in such a fashion.

Bedridden, weak and suffering, as time goes on and the guilt of financial burden builds up, even Iunkai's daughter wonders if it might be best for all is she were to take the 'easy" way out. And when Dr. Death hears of Inukai's daughter's possible request, it it more imperative than ever that the Detective duo catch him before he can contact his daughter! A psychological cat-and-mouse game begins...

This was really a great movie, and I really liked not just the story and its ideas, but the characters of Inukai and Takachicho. I mentioned earlier, but this fim seems like part of a series as the roles seem pretty well-established even from the very beginning, as if we're supposed to know who they are already.

Smart, quick thinking and totally cool,  these we character you loved seeing in action, whether tracking down the killers or even just grousing at the bar about their personal problems.

Would LOVE to see more movies with these two!!!

Your Monthly Keiko for September 2025

And we're back with a ponderous Keiko for the month of September!! It's times like this that I sometimes wish I also purchased her wall-size calendars as they are bigger and feature completely different photos, alas I simply do not have the room for it!!

I love these clips, watching Keitan grow right before my eyes is a pure delight! Ooooh, so many of these characters are real favorites of mine!

 Instagram site Japanstarworld has this wonderful series where they show celebritiy timelines via photos and morphing effect, and I really loved their take on Keiko Kitagawa’s career- It’s things like this that remind me not only of how much she’s changed over the years, but that I’ve always been right along with her!

Ever since first seeing her in 2007 with her charming MOP GIRL drama, I’ve been a steadfast fan of Keitan and her work, a love that continues as strong as it did back then!

The Crafty Side of Keiko

Keiko Kitagawa will appear in the September issue of the bimonthly craft magazine "COTTON TIME", which goes on sale on August 7th. The issue will start a series on handmade items, showcasing how to make a mini ribbon handbag.

Kitagawa picked up a sewing machine for the first time in a long time last autumn while making things for her child's kindergarten entrance ceremony, and has been posting the items she has made one after another on X (@KKeiko_official), which has been generating a lot of buzz. In the series, she invites a sewing teacher as her instructor, and learns various tips while making original works…

For the first project, she made a ribbon mini handbag from scratch. The yellow fabric is a different color from the fabric she had previously used to make a dress for her daughter, and she chose it with the intention of subtly matching the two. Kitagawa is enthusiastic, saying, "In the future, I'd like to try my hand at making pillows and mother's bags for children, and even embroidery."

“I'm writing a series about handmade crafts in the craft magazine "COTTON TIME" ! I never thought my hobby would develop into something like this! I'm honored to be a reader of theirs!”

The next issue, the November issue of COTTON TIME, due to go on sale on October 7th, will come with a bonus item of fabric in a special color from Liberty Fabric, specially supervised by Kitagawa.

This looks like such a fun and cute little series!

Your Monthly Keiko August 2025

Another svelte Keiko for the month of August!

We're still reeling over Keiko's moving performance in her drama Anata wo Ubatta Sono Hi kara which recently wrapped, and we've now got an official trailer for her upcoming theatrical film NIGHT FLOWER due for release in November!

Seems like 2025 will be another banner year for Keitan!!

BTW... while browsing through Keiko shorts on Youtube, I was stunned to discover something I never realized about her- Keiko’s fluency in English! And I don’t mean in that “engrisshy” J-drama way of “Oh, she speaks English so well”, I mean, like, Hikaru Nishida efficiency!

Yep, though I’ve LOVED Keiko for YEARS, somehow it wasn’t until I saw a clip of Keiko in a traveling special talking to the locals, that I realized her natural sounding grasp of English…Even at a press conference simply introducing herself to the audience, she sounds so AMERICAN! WHOA!

Seems when she did that stint in the “Fast and the Furious” franchise (Tokyo Drift) , her curiosity was piqued enough to return to America and study English there for a time. It was in Los Angeles California, and If I do say so myself, she DOES have a slight Cali twang in her inflection!
MAN, I always find new things to be impressed with with this girl!!!!

Anata wo Ubatta Sono Hi Kara 終わり

The final episode of the Keiko Kitagawa child abduction revenge drama Anata wo Ubatta Sono Hi kara wrapped tonight, and, as expected, was full of gripping and emotional scenes from beginning to end! Anata Ubatte was my favorite drama this season (of the small handful I checked out), and it had me on the edge of my seat as the emotional story played out, keeping me guessing just what was going to happen next!

One thing this drama had going for it was a really really great cast, led by the amazing Nao Omori and Keiko Kitagawa as the parents pitted against each other for the loss of a daughter.

Must mention newcomer Kasumi Isshiki who played the central daughter figure Mimi/Moeko, the aforementioned "abducted child" who was the heart that held the whole drama together.

Also must mention how great Yuna Taira was in this as the daughter Ririko. In my initial post I remarked that she was the one character who seemed to be unpredictable as she kept her true motivations close to her chest, and indeed, had one of the most pivotal arcs in the series.

I've loved Yuna for some time now, but was really impressed with her acting in this one!

While the Dan Rei Drama "Youkami No Semi" remains my favorite in the kidnapped/abducted child genre, Anata wo Ubatta Sono Hi kara was a compelling show in its own right, and is certainly another one of Keiko Kitagawa's finer efforts!

Looking forward to Keiko's upcoming film "Night Flower"!

Happy Keiko for July! These past few months have been banner ones for the Keiko Kitagawa fan, with her awesome drama "Anata wo Ubatta Sono Hi kara" about to wrap up, and news of a brand new theatrical film "NIGHT FLOWER" announced!

KEIKO KITAGAWA stars in “NIGHT FLOWER", HER FIRST TIME STARRING IN A MOVIE in 4 YEARS!

Actress Keiko Kitagawa (38) will play the role of a drug dealer, completely changing her previous pure image, in the movie "Night Flower" , directed by Eiji Uchida), which will be released on November 28. This will be her first starring role in a movie in four years since "First Love" (directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi) in 2021.

Director Uchida's second Midnight series, following the 2020 film "Midnight Swan," (which won the Japan Academy Prize for Best Picture for its sensitive depiction of the struggles of transgender people), is an ambitious work written and scripted by Uchida. It is a human suspense story in which Natsuki, played by Kitagawa, struggles as a drug dealer to raise her two children.

She plays a strong character almost makeup-free, with messy hair and speaking in Kansai dialect. Kitagawa said that when she read the script, she was "shocked." Kitagawa is also a mother of two children, and said, "Drug trafficking is not right, but I am strongly attracted to the idea of ​​giving up everything for your children."

It has been 2 years since Kitagawa and Director Uchida have worked together on WOWOW's 2011 drama "Drama W: Sunset." Kitagawa, who is from Hyogo Prefecture, said that Director Uchida explained to her about the role she will be playing as a mother living in the Kansai region. Although it is a role she has never played before, she said, "I hope viewers will watch over the strong desire of a mother to protect her child, and her down-to-earth determination to somehow live a positive life in a corrupted world."  

When Director Uchida was writing the script for "Midnight Swan," he imagined a mother living in the criminal world of the night, which was the original idea for the story. Regarding Kitagawa, he praised her, saying, "She took on the difficult role of a drug dealer, and on set, she exploded with overwhelming acting that I had never seen before. I am happy to be able to see the moment when Kitagawa enters her next phase as an actress."

WOW, sounds SO intriguing! As someone living outside of Japan, however all I am able to do is cross fingers that NETFLIX or some other streaming site will host it once it finishes its theatrical run!  Such a LONG wait!

A Wild Showadoriginzahodo Bridge Appeared!

It was only a few months back that I learned the name of that ubiquitous 4-way overpass bridge ( identified by hamanosilence as the “Showadoriginzahodo Bridge”), and it's been popping up EVERYWHERE, like in a latter episode of the Toshiaki Karasawa drama "Private Banker"...

Watching these scenes, I can really see the allure of shooting here- every angle has a terrific backdrop no matter WHICH direction! This is definitely a place I wanna visit if I EVER do get to Japan- who knows, I may even see them shooting yet another drama scene there!!
