Cupids For The 21st Century in “Peanut Butter Sandwich”

Miki Honoka plays Tsubaki, a newbie employee for a secet government department called the Peanut Butter Sandwich organization run by Kobayashi (Kentaro Ito) and Gonda (Shuko Ito)....
The Department's purpose is to match single women with worthy matches, and her first task is to spy on four potential clients and learn of their current romance opportunities!
The four girls are
Sayo Katagiri (Akane Hotta)
Miharu Morimoto (Miori Takimoto)
 Akane Matsuoka (Niki)
 and Miwa Yamashita (Miwako Kakei)…
As they gossip, we learn that all four of them have different situations, with career woman Sayo interested in a married man, Miharu stuck with a deadbeat boyfriend, etc...
Tsubaki listens closely to the girls, taking note of all their romance statistics....
And then, with a book full of notes, They compile the data and with the department’s state-of-the-art matchmaking computers, find the very best match for each of their customers…but will the BEST match be the men they HOPE for…or someone they’d never dreamed of dating?
Man- Miori Takimoto? Miwako Kakei? Honoka Miki? Will Someone Subtitle This Drama PLEASE?! The premise of this drama sounds so good and starsso MANY of my favorite actresses that I just HAD to grab it even though there were no translations for it!!
Yep, I struggled through the whole first episode and though I get the gist of what’s going on, I’d really like the details of their conversations… Seems so interesting so far! Until someone hopefully picks up this drama, I’ll be over here struggling and watchin' it RAW!

A Classic Gets a 2020 Update

Very surprised to see listed on the Jdrama weblog of upcoming dramas a remake of the classic 1991 Oda Yuji/Suzuki Honami love drama "Tokyo Love Story" with Kentaro Ito and Anna Ishii in the roles of Kanchi and Satomi, along with Sho Kiyahara and Shizuka Ishibashi in the Eguchi Yosuke and Narimi Arimori roles.
Guess it's okay to update these old classics for a new generation of fans, but, as I mentioned in my review of SUITS, (the drama which reunited Suzuki and Oda for the first time in years), Honami Suzuki in the role of Satomi was absolutely one-of-a-kind and in my opinion can NEVER be duplicated!
Below: The original from 1991 wi Suzuki Honami and Oda Yuji

Ah, but I guess we'll see how Anna Ishii does....

Another Fine Romance

Well, after mistaking “Yuube Wa Otanoshimi Deshita Ne” with “Kono Koi wa Tsumi No Na Ka?”, I couldn’t just let it go at that and so once I was done watching Yuube, I immediately popped in Kono Koi to give it a whirl!
After watching it, no wonder I got the two dramas mixed up. Both mini-series starring a shy and introverted boy who meets a girl who dazzles him, centered around gaming (one online Dragon Quest, and the other around Shoji) and how the two slowly fall in love.
Kono Koi wa Tsumi no na Ka focuses on a shy guy named Kotaro Okawa (Kentaro Ito) who happens to first cross paths with pretty and demure Tae Komada (Yuki Kashiwagi) riding the bus when her ample cleavage presses against him.
He is mortified that he will be vilified as a pervert, but the kind girl simply looks up at him and gently apologizes for the inconvenience!

Unable to get the girl out of his mind, Okawa goes to work, where we find he is a stiff, unfeeling and blunt person to work with, his curt and callous demeanor making it obvious why he doesn’t have any friends! He abhors human interaction but with an order from his boss to attend the after-work drinking party, he grudgingly does so.
Everyone is there to have a good time and forget their troubles when his rude way of speaking makes everyone uncomfortable once more!
Running to the bathroom to compose himself, he once again meets the alluring girl from the bus, and this time, instead of her pressing against him, she accidentally shows her panties (after a restroom faux pas of tucking her dress into her underwear)!

The introverted Okawa tries to alert the girl, but he is interrupted by her friend who calls him a pervert! Once again his luck strikes out!

After enduring all he can at the party, Okawa leaves where he is met once again by the girl and, after introductions, he asks if they can be friends. With a kind smile and a twinkle in her eye, she says YES, and thus begins the story of Kotaro Okawa and his very first love, the seemingly reserved Tae Komada…whom Kotaro will soon learn is a professional Shoji player!!!
This was a fun little drama, and a nice bookend after watching Yuube Wa Otanoshimi Deshita Ne, very low-key and relaxing to watch, but I have to wonder: Is this thing of dramas consisting of 5-6 episodes the new thing? Are mini-series going to become more abundant in the j-drama scene?
