Back to The Old House with Fuka Koshiba

As you may recall at the conclusion of the original “Youkai Share House’ back in 2020, Mio (Fuka Koshiba) had rejected proposals of marriage which would have saved her from fully becoming a monster which had begun happening as a by-product of living with the ghouls for a prolonged time. Instead, she had decided to embrace her inner-monster and left the Youkai share house to go out into the world and pursue her goals of writing books for herself and not for fortune.
Well, as the sequel “Youkai Sharehouse: Kaettekita n Kai” opens we find that that may not have been a sensible plan, as writing for oneself with no pursuit of success has left her broke and desolate, eking out a meager living by doing a load of part-time jobs like meal delivery, janitor, courier, etc. She is getting burnt out and has even seemingly lost her monster characteristics, reverting back to a mere mortal.
She is ashamed to return to the Youkai Share house as a failure, but what she doesn’t know is that one by one, each member of the original share house has seen her and is keenly aware of her misfortunes! First Numata (Koji Ohkura) sees her picking up a meal for delivery…
Then Iwa (Marika Matsumoto) sees her mopping up the floors at the hospital she works at…
Sakai (Katsuya Maiguma) sees her delivering a parcel to his trading company (where she is being berated for a mistake)...
…and Utako (Nobue Iketani) sees her passing out tissues at an intersection.

At home Iwa is heartbroken and wants to bring Mio back with them, but the guys tell her that Mio living among them was the problem in the first place, and the only way for her to get strong is to let her go at her own pace.
But in the meantime Mio is struggling even more and finally swallows her pride and attempts to come back to the share house. But she is stunned when she finds that they have moved on without her!
Luckily for her, she meets a friendly gentleman one night named Kawabe (Toshihito Kokubo) working at a Rec Center where they are looking for a swimming teacher!
She is hired immediately and is soon happily working alongside him teaching middle aged ladies the ropes!
Mio loves her new job but is concerned when Kawabe begins peddling overpriced health products to the naive ladies.

Even worse is when she catches him seducing one of the students and then withdrawing some kind of energy from her body and consuming it!! Is this guy a youkai??
When she sees the detrimental effects his vampiric feeding is taking on the ladies, she confronts him, and is horrified when he attacks her and reveals his true self!
Fortunately, her guardian monsters have always been close by and rescue her from Kawabe’s hold! She is whisked away and brought back to the new share house where she is once again reunited with her former fellow home occupants!
Back in the nest of her friends, Mio tells the youkai about Kawabe and his strange shenanigans. And so, as they had done once before, they take it upon themselves to help Mio and defeat the bad youkais of this realm! And of course, Mio asks if she can stay with them as well!
Youkai Share House continues to be a fun romp like the original series, but it looks like they dropped the entire writer aspect of Fuka’s character, No magazine job or editor subplot, it looks like this series she will be encountering new youkai through odd jobs?
Hope they don’t abandon her writing plot entirely, though they seem to wave it away, saying that her transforming into a youkai was what made her think she was a good writer and that she actually had no talent at all for the field. I was like, “What? Aww, that’s a bummer of a retcon!” But so far, been an enjoyable watch, so we’ll see where this goes!!!
