Another Fine Romance

Well, after mistaking “Yuube Wa Otanoshimi Deshita Ne” with “Kono Koi wa Tsumi No Na Ka?”, I couldn’t just let it go at that and so once I was done watching Yuube, I immediately popped in Kono Koi to give it a whirl!
After watching it, no wonder I got the two dramas mixed up. Both mini-series starring a shy and introverted boy who meets a girl who dazzles him, centered around gaming (one online Dragon Quest, and the other around Shoji) and how the two slowly fall in love.
Kono Koi wa Tsumi no na Ka focuses on a shy guy named Kotaro Okawa (Kentaro Ito) who happens to first cross paths with pretty and demure Tae Komada (Yuki Kashiwagi) riding the bus when her ample cleavage presses against him.
He is mortified that he will be vilified as a pervert, but the kind girl simply looks up at him and gently apologizes for the inconvenience!

Unable to get the girl out of his mind, Okawa goes to work, where we find he is a stiff, unfeeling and blunt person to work with, his curt and callous demeanor making it obvious why he doesn’t have any friends! He abhors human interaction but with an order from his boss to attend the after-work drinking party, he grudgingly does so.
Everyone is there to have a good time and forget their troubles when his rude way of speaking makes everyone uncomfortable once more!
Running to the bathroom to compose himself, he once again meets the alluring girl from the bus, and this time, instead of her pressing against him, she accidentally shows her panties (after a restroom faux pas of tucking her dress into her underwear)!

The introverted Okawa tries to alert the girl, but he is interrupted by her friend who calls him a pervert! Once again his luck strikes out!

After enduring all he can at the party, Okawa leaves where he is met once again by the girl and, after introductions, he asks if they can be friends. With a kind smile and a twinkle in her eye, she says YES, and thus begins the story of Kotaro Okawa and his very first love, the seemingly reserved Tae Komada…whom Kotaro will soon learn is a professional Shoji player!!!
This was a fun little drama, and a nice bookend after watching Yuube Wa Otanoshimi Deshita Ne, very low-key and relaxing to watch, but I have to wonder: Is this thing of dramas consisting of 5-6 episodes the new thing? Are mini-series going to become more abundant in the j-drama scene?
