A Detective's Life in Reset in "Keiji Zero"

In a scuffle to arrest a murder suspect, detective Rekihiko Tokiya (Ikki Sawamura) falls off the side of a building into a container of water, which saves his life but puts him in the hospital.
When Tokiya awakens the next day, he finds that he cannot remember where he is and can’t even recognize his own partners when they come in to visit him. Upon checking the newspaper’s date, he realizes he has lost 20 years of his life and has no memory as a police investigator!
Hiding his illness, Tokiya is introduced to his new partner, rookie Tomoka Saso (Miori Takimoto) who is given the job of assisting Tokiya as he makes his way back to the force.
Saso’s been a great admirer of Tokiya's work in the past and cannot understand why the once outspoken and brave detective is now timid and unsure about his methods.
Tokiya goes to visit his physician Uncle Morio (Takeda Tetsuya) who looks Tokiya over. He acknowledges his malady as memory loss, but attributes some of it due to psychological reasons. His memory may return in a day , a month, or never! For now he suggest to keep his amnesia a secret.
As Tokiya learns that he will be let go of his job if they discover he has lost his memory, he cannot reveal his secret to anyone, but little by little, the sharp instincts he had as a 20 year veteran of the force comes back to him and though he doesn’t know how, helps the cases they are on get solved!
Of course, this cannot go on forever and eventually Saso gets wise to Tokiya's predicament. But when she sees the spark of genius she once admired about him, she agrees to help him out. As a great admirer of Tokiya's work, she has a huge database of knowledge about him, and with this, they might just get through this!
Tokiya’s memory reminds me a bit of Anne Nakamura’s similar malady in “Love Rerun”. Her character Sayaka was feeling remorse about her life and at that moment her mind wiped her memories of the past 3 months, as if in retreat. In the same way, just before his fall, Tokiya questioned his life as a detective, and fate has somehow stepped in to give him an opportunity to ‘start over” again at zero!

Haken Uranaishi Ataru 終

I'm not crying! You're crying! Ahhh well, just finished watching the charming and entirely sweet drama  "Haken Uranaishi Ataru", the story of a former child TV psychic named Ataru Matoba who escaped the world of Television media and goes to work at a Promotional Event Coordination Agency where she learns of the world around her at the same time she uses her abilities to help her co-workers solve their problems and see their true potential.
Hana Sugisaki was absolutely terrific as the subdued and sassy Ataru, who spent most of the series giving knowing gazes at her fellow employees as they struggle with their day to day problems hwere most of her thoughts had to be conveyed thru her expressions, and she did it so well!
But it wasn't just Hana Sugisaki, EVERYONE had their chance to shine, with individual episodes set up for the characters played by Shida Mirai, Mamiya Shotaro, Nonami Maho, Ozawa Yukiyoshi, Oikawa Mitsuhiro, Shison Jun...

...and special mention must be made of Yuka Itaya, whose frazzled character, section Chief Osaki always made me laugh with her spastic sing-song voice as she tried to smooth things between her uppers and her rambunctious personnel each episode! One of my favorite roles of hers!!!
Another drama I'm really, really, going to miss watching each week!!!

Springtime for Bom Park

Haven't bought any K-Pop CDs in quite awhile- in fact the last physical CD I picked up was JYP supergroup TWICE's debut album 'The Story Begins" way back in 2015, but when I heard Bom Park was releasing a mini-album I knew I'd be rectifying that very soon!
Bom's soaring vocals in 2NE1 were always one of the major reasons I loved them, and when she lent her voice to Epik High's "Up" I realized that she was just about my FAVORITE K-pop vocalist ever!
Oh sure there are ACTS I love more, but when it comes to pure, raw emotional stylings, there's something about Bom's voice that really DOES it for me, and I'm here to tell you that the songs on her new solo album "Spring" confirm what I've always thought!!!
For Blackjack fans, it's nice to see fellow 2NE1 member Dara joining her for the opening title track "Spring", and the other tracks "My Lover" and :"Shameful" are just as freaking great! Too bad they only put THREE songs on this EP...I would have killed for more!!!
Still, it's heartwarming to see Bom (and Dara) again after so long, the package is beautiful (and it even came with a card!), only hope this means we'll be expecting even MORE from her in the future!

That Was Sei Shiraishi

So I was wracking my brain throughout a ENTIRE episode of QUEEN trying to place where I had seen the very pretty actress playing an Olympic Figure Skater named Noriko accused of murdering her boyfriend…
As i watched it, I kept telling myself, “I know I’ve seen a drama or movie out there recently with this actress because I remember those three beauty spots under her left eye…” But try as I might, I just could NOT place her.
Indeed, it wasn’t until the entire episode was over and I’d made my way to the official FujiTV QUEEN page that I realized the girl I’d been watching for the last 45 minutes was none other than Sei Shiraishi, the actress playing the younger Sayaka Yamaguchi Noriko character in “Zettai Seigi”!!
Man, it’s so funny how different  an actress can look under different circumstances- in QUEEN she is supposed to be an outgoing, dazzling girl and looks accordingly, in Zettai Seigi she is supposed to be dour and moody, and gives off the appropriate aura! (Funny how she was named Noriko in both roles)..
Hmm, according to Asianwiki, I’ve actually seen Sei even earlier, in the Nanao drama “Miss Devil” where she played Mafuyu Todo, one of Shori Sato’s rookie friends fighting against the evil Nanao…
I guess she didn’t make that much of an impression on me back then,(since I'd forgotten all about her) but I have a feeling we’re going to be seeing a LOT more of Sei Shiraishi in the future!!!
