Just watched the first episode of an older drama from 2016 called Princess Maison, this sweetest drama of a shy, introverted young girl who dreams of owning an apartment of her very own.
This don't seem so promising from the outlook: Sachi Numagoe (Aoi Morikawa) rents a room in a run-down apartment where the roof leaks and appliances rattle and rock.
She's been working for the last 8 years of her life as a waitress in a side street inn, and her dinners every night usually consist of leftover takeout from the restaurant. But there has been a reason for all her scrimping and saving, and that is because she has a dream of someday getting an apartment!
On her days off, goes to visit the seminars for MJ Maison Toyoso West, the new complex in her neighborhood, dreaming of a day when she might actually live there.
She catches the eye of Date Masakazu (Issei Takahashi), the managing director, who seems to see something in the way Sachi pores over every detail of the sample apartment, running her hands lovingly over the pieces that adorn the room. This is a girl who really appreciates things.
Agent Satoko Kaname (Hana Hizuki) talks to Sachi a bit, but only sees her as a young girl who happens to be browsing around for fun.

When she happens to have dinner at Sachi's restaurant that evening, kickin' back some beers, however, she sees how focused a worker she is, and how determined she can be about her dreams.
From there, she decides to help her, and upon her next visit, leaves Sachi a package with apartment details, saying "We can get you a nice home!" And from there begins Sachi's journey as she attempts to overcome the hurdles to finally attain her dream.

This is such a great little show! I can't explain how much I love the pacing of this drama, it's very slow and introspective and characters are given a lot to convey with just an eyebrow raise or a thoughtful look. It's dramas like these that I call my 'relaxing" dramas, ones I can just kick back and watch at the end of a day, dramas like the Tabe Mikako's Tsubaki Bunguten or the Mi wo Tsukushi Ryouricho, and with subber Purisu picking this show up, Princess Maison looks like it will be my new go-to drama!
Aoi Morikawa is great as the shy and frequently befuddle sachi, but special mention must be made of Hana Hizuki, her character of Satoko Kaname as the "cool beauty" real estate agent with the soft spot for helping the naive Sachi is one I fell in love with from the moment she is introduced! Rocking a distinct Yo Yoshida vibe, this charismatic lady commanded every scene she was in! Gotta see MORE!
