I was supposed to see the SMTown Documentary "I AM" when it played here a few months ago at the HIFF (Hawaii International Film Festival), but not even a day after I told my friends to pick up a ticket for me, found out I was working the Inventory at my workplace that entire weekend! My friends consoled me by pointing out that it was available already to purchase in Korea, and would shortly be available in domestic DVD as well.
At first I didn't really have high expectations from the "documentary" part of it, and bought the DVD solely for the awesome 2 hour+ Live Concert at New York's Madison Square Garden. I have to say though, that the documentary had some really cool, rare and FUN stuff in it- Besides the insight to the SM members and their backstage banter and personal thoughts, the Movie was loaded with all of this rare and unseen footage of the artists during their pre-debut phase, and in some cases even had the original audition tapes they'd sent in to start their careers! It was THIS that kept me watching the show over and over, in particular, the clips of SNSD and f(x)!
Was so interesting to see early clips of Victoria having a hard time pronouncing some korean words and then having them cut back to the vibrant, beautiful young lady now..

When Krystal watched an early dance recording of herself losing her balance and falling down, she was laughing so hard, even I began laughing, it was too funny!

And one of the cutest things was seeing an adorable 5th grade Sulli getting up and introducing herself to the people. all the time smiling and giggling!!

Now, I've seen quite a few audition/pre-debut videos of the SNSD girls, the ones of Seohyun and Hyoyeon are always shwon on variety shows and the like, but I have NEVER sen the ones for Yuri, Sooyoung, Taeyeon and Tiffany. Yuri was such a cute kid, gettin' down to the funky sounds with that famous Yuri eye-smile beaming out...

And speaking of Eye-smiles, the audition Tape of Tiffany's was one that seemed SO Fany Fany- an interpretive style Chinese Fan Dance that once again made me think she seemed so much like the girls I went to school with here in Hawaii!

There were other interesting videos, though some not as drastically different as the ones I've posted above, and I would be screencapping them, but I've got to get back to that Madison Square Garden Concert!
