Favorite J-Pop Songs: Every Little Thing / Here and Everywhere

Every Little Thing was another in the great wave of Beatles’ inspired titles in the J-pop early 90’s (think Mr. Children’s “Tomorrow Never Knows”), and the trio went even one further with their song “Here and Everywhere”. I’d already known about Every Little Thing through their hits "Feel My Heart" and "Future World",  but it was THIS non-single track (from their debut album Everlasting) that really put them on the map for me!
Ah, listening to it now, I’m surprised how much is sounds like Van Halen’s "Jump" (at least the overall sound of the bouncy keyboards) but make no mistake, this is STILL the song I’ve known and loved for so many years. So bright, heartfelt and optimistic, this song was the song I used to close many cassette tape mixes back in the day. Man, everything about this song makes me feel so good!
I remember being quite bummed that this song wasn’t chosen as a promoted single track, and my friend shared the sentiment. He told me that he picked up an ELT Video Collection and when he saw that there was a PV for Here and Everywhere he was beyond ecstatic…until he found it was a montage style video featuring a remix track ! I shared his pain. To not have a proper video for this awesome song was unforgiveable!
So here I am the other night thinking about that song and I wonder…did Every Little Thing EVER put out a video or live performance of the song? Crossing my fingers I typed it into the Youtube search engine…and LO AND BEHOLD, a live performance from 1998 came up! WHOA! Was this a REAL live performance or just a fan-made video? I nervously clicked the link…and BOY, the GOOSEBUMPS I got when that song started! Sooo much FEELS, god DAMN, they sound so good, the song still as AWESOME as ever! Even better was that this was still the original line-up before Igarashi left the group, so this was pure “classic” ELT!
