Fuka Koshiba is back in yet another wonderfully eccentric role as the titular Mokomi Shimizu in the new drama Mokomi: Kanojo Chotto Hendakedo (Mokomi’s Just a Little Weird)!
Ever since she was a little girl, Koshiba’s Mokomi has had a decidedly strange quirk of talking to and conversing with inanimate objects! This causes problems for Momoki as the other children think she is a weirdo and complain to her mother (Yasuko Tomita) about.This causes Mokomi to retreat within herself and in middle school she becomes a reclusive shut-in. But by the time we catch up with her, she has managed to overcome most of her fears and has taken on a job in a tool manufacturing warehouse.Her keen rapport with inanimate things makes her a whiz at detecting defective product, but when she gets hurt trying to clean the warehouse windows because she feels it is “crying”, she once again retreats into herself.It will be up to the family to help Mokomi out of her malaise and put a smile back on her face…but with problems of their own, things may not be as easy as it seems!
Besides Yasuko Tomita, Seiichi Tanabe, Asuka Kudo and Isao Hashizume as Mokomi’s family, there’s also Erena Mizusawa and Risa Naito as her brother’s co-workers, the latter interesting because Risa played Fuka’s co-worker in her last drama Youkai Share House! So far seems like an interesting enough situation, though it’s a bit more depressing that I thought given the funny premise and hilarious title...But Fuka is great in it as usual, and it is just great to see her again! Will be interesting to see how this show progresses, though I do hope they lighten the tone a bit…it’s so SERIOUSSSS.
