Emi Takei at Age 21 in "Age Harassment"
After watching that dark and haunting Keiko Kitagawa drama, it was time for something more on the sunny side, and that’s exactly what we got with the new Emi Takei drama Age Harassment- cute, fun and bubbly Emi Takei at her most adorable…and by the time of the first episode’s end, something even more- a cool, fully realized character ready to take on the world!
Age Harassment tells the story of a young woman named Emiri Yoshii who has just started work at a large company. Though she has a cheery and optimistic personality (just think Emi Takei in “Tokyo no Zenryoku Shojo), she is finding that the company is split into cliques by age: the elders, the middle aged and the teenagers, and all are at odds with each other. Poor Emiri doesn’t seem to fit into any of the groups (the older ladies don’t like her cheerfully outspoken behavior, and the girls her age think she’s a “kiss-up” to the male bosses, whom of course love having this sweet young girl around).

Throughout it all, the genki Emi we’ve come to know and love tries to persevere, staying optimistic when everyone is putting her down, buying strawberries for her boss when she feels that she is disappointed in her work, and trying to do her very best. For awhile there, we see a montage of Emiri at work, and it is hands-down adorable. Scurrying around in her uniform, I was beside myself with happiness!
But it seems that her female superior and co-workers are more than just irritated by her special attention she’s getting from her male uppers, they want her out. First by ignoring her, they begin upping their game by going out of their way to crush her cheerful attitude and hurt her feelings- finally it comes to a head when Emiri decides ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
I’ve mentioned before how much I hate the “bullying cliché” that’s so rampant in j-dramas, and how much I love when a character comes along who will put their foot down and “tell it like it is”. That’s the reason I loved Sayaka Yamaguchi’s Nishizaki character in “Yokoso Wagaya E”, and WOW! Now we have it here with a FINALLY FED UP Emiri who has taken the last bit of hate she will stand and is now in the business of telling them where to stick the fancy labels!
WHOA! From such a cute and adorable thing to a “Don’t MESS with ME!” gal , Emi has gone straight from Tokyo Zenryoku Shojo to Zero No Shinjitsu! Soooo INTRIGUING! Man, I can’t WAIT to see what happens next!!!
