Motoko Asahina (Ai Hashimoto) is a young woman who, because of her strict upbringing and an importance on etiquette, has grown into an introverted individual who rarely speaks or stands out and, despite a secret love of bright colorful clothes, dresses in dour black and muted tones.
She knows nothing of social cues like partying, drinking, or going out on dates, and while her fellow college classmates banter about hooking up outside of school and other frivolous things, Motoko is always seriously studying.
There is one passion in her life, and that is her German class. She excels in her studies and hopes to become an interpreter some day like her instructor, Sensei Sasaki (Min Tanaka).
Motoko looks up to this gentleman in so many ways, and when he shows compassion for her when she is feeling left out and pressured by her fellow students, she becomes attracted to him in ways that go far beyond that of a regular Teacher/Student relationship.
There is another teacher at that school, Tanaka Sensei (Asuka Kudo) who has been keeping an eye on Motoko for some time, and is the first to deduce that Motoko may be love with Sensei.
Confronting her, she denies having such feelings and suggests he keep such rumors to himself. “Please act more like a Teacher” she requests.
But as time goes on and Motoko interacts more with Sensei, her feelings blossom and soon she cannot deny that this ache in her heart and desire to be with him can only be a real, true love.
Motoko is busy trying to come to terms with her feelings, when a new Teacher arrives at the school to take over lessons. Her name is Midori Asagiri (Yuki Saito) , and not only is she smart and worldly, it is soon revealed that she is in fact, Sensei Sasaki ’s EX-WIFE whom she divorced some years ago but now seems to still be in good graces with!
Poor Motoko! With her feelings for her teacher on her mind and her German education to adhere to, She will have many roads to cross in the coming weeks!
Another drama featuring the stoic Ai Hashimoto, whom I first took notice of in the Mitsuki Takahata drama “Douki No Sakura”. Interesting to see her starring in a headlining role!
EDIT:
Just finished watching this and I have to say...YEP, this was really good!!! Ai Hashimoto knocked it out of the park- such awesome acting as the show wound up to its conclusion- I believed every word she said, every tear she shed and every smile she gave!
