Checking In On Our Stepmother and Stepdaughter

At the end of last year's "Gibo to Musume no Blues 2020-nen Kinga Shinnen Special" sequel to the Ayase Haruka/Takenouchi Yutaka drama "Gibo To Musume No Blues", Akiko (Ayase) had met up with a new business partner, only to find out that he looked exactly like her deceased husband Ryoichi (Takenouchi).
"Gibo to Musume no Blues 2022-nen Kinga Shinnen Special " takes up exactly where they left off., with Akiko meeting this guy for the first time. His name is Ryoji Iwaki, and though he looks like Akiko's kind-hearted husband, there's definitely something more shady about him!!
Along the way we check back in with all the rest of the regulars of the show, stepdaughter Miyuki (Moka Kamishiraishi), her love interest Hiroki (Kai Inowaki), best friend Sakura (Ai Yoshikawa), meddling realtor (Yumi Aso) and of course the eternally scatterbrained Baker Mugita (Takeru Sato)!
Was an OK special, I guess, with Akiko trying her best to stop the takeover of their bakery against a supposed foe who has the face of her ex husband, but I'm more surprised that we keep getting more Gibo To Musume Specials to begin with!
Don't get me wrong, I liked Gibo To Musume No Blues a lot, but never got the feeling it was  extraordinarily popular, least not enough to spawn TWO specials but I guess they MUST be since they're still making them? Story seems to have strayed quite a bit from the Stepmother/Stepdaughter dynamic of the original show, with Miyuki almost a background character in her own show. Still, was nice to see everyone again, and there was even some really nice moments with Mom and Daughter reminiscing about Ryoichi.
Will we see yet another special in 2023? We'll see!
